I’m happy to see that Ryan Reynolds knows the Green Lantern oath by heart.
The star of Warner Bros’ upcoming sci-fi epic recited the oath for a youngster who asked an audience question, then later suggested that a raffle prize (his GL ring prop) be awarded to the boy if no one claimed it. (Someone did. Shucks!) |

Rather than recount Zach Snyder's bubbly panel for his upcoming movie-thing Sucker Punch, I'm just going to try and describe what I saw. The trailer looks insane.

Recently CC2K's own Tony Lazlo got to sit down with filmmaker Elisabeth Fies and talk about her new film The Commune. Being the uber-geek that he is, naturally Tony took the interview in all kinds of fun, film-centric directions. Read on for the full interview!
TL: Elisabeth, thanks for agreeing to this interview! First off, let's talk about your movie, The Commune. When you set out to make this movie, did you have any existing movies or eras of filmmaking in mind that served as inspiration for your project? Or in other words: There's an old saying that an artist should make the kind of art that they themselves would like; What kind of movie did you want to make when you made The Commune?
EF: I wanted to make a good old-fashioned 70s cerebral thriller/horror. The kind of movie that holds up and still scares because it’s about something and is done with intelligence and grace. Good examples are Martin, Burnt Offerings, Repulsion, The Tenant, Don’t Look Now, The Changeling, Let’s Scare Jessica to Death. I’m a film scholar, and I felt like these movies weren’t being made anymore. So yeah, I made what I wanted to see. Because for the last decade we’ve only received one movie in that style a year, while we’re besieged with dozens of lazy Saw and Friday the 13th knock-offs.

You can’t get anything by me, Back to the Future! Like most geeks of my generation, I’ve seen this classic time-travel movie countless times, and over the years, I’ve compiled a modest list of tiny details I’ve noticed and would like to expound upon. These minor details span a range of categories. In some cases, they’re simply powerful moments that have lingered with me, and in other cases, they’re rich details that I only recently noticed – and that I very well might be imagining. I’ll leave it to you to help me decide. |

I considered keeping it quiet. You see, I knew I wasn’t supposed to be here, and maybe I should have been more furtive about it...donned a trench coat. OK, not in June, and especially not in the southern Virginia climate where the heat seems to seep inside even the most air-conditioned of buildings. But I might have been safe with dark glasses, a hat, a scarf. In the crowd I was joining, it might even have passed for inconspicuous.
I was relatively safe: miles away from the campus I teach at, the odds of running into any of my students were slim. And besides, if I ran into someone I knew, that meant they were there too. They’d have their own reasons not to mention it. I should have kept it quiet, but I didn’t. I tweeted it, to the horror of some of my friends. “Do not want”, one replied. “I’m sorry”, another said. Others stayed silent, perhaps too appalled by the idea even to comment. Where was I going? A strip club? A shady bar? No. I went to the Eclipse premiere. To be more precise, I went to the Twilight *marathon*.
