Going Commando: The Ultimate Arnold Action Movie E-mail
Movies Crapfest

As I was lying in bed last night, sleep eluding me as words do President Bush (Zing!), I tried to think of a worthy candidate for my first attempt at writing an article for CC2K. I had nothing. Nothing seemed right, nothing felt promising. I tried to think of all the bad movies I’d seen to find one to make a contribution to CRAPFEST about, but was still coming up empty. Then I was cold-cocked by the meaty fist of inspiration with a single word: Commando.

In case you can't read the caption on the side it says: "Somewhere ... Somehow ... Someone's Going to Pay!" Sounds like President Bush's view of the War on Terror (ZING Again!)

First I feel the need to set the stage. Commando came out in the heyday of action movies, when action movies WERE action movies, and action movie stars were demi-gods. I’m talking about the 80’s. My younger brother and I grew up during this time, and we worshipped at the cinematic altars of Steven Seagal, Jean Claude Van Damme, Sylvester Stallone, and (of course) Arnold.

The Savages E-mail
Movies Essays Etc
Written by Tony Lazlo, CC2K Staff Writer

ImageIt's easy to get suckered in by a sad story.

Tamara Jenkins' The Savages, though well-crafted and impeccably acted, suffers from a reliance on cliché that is woven so deeply into the script that it's easy to overlook.

What they found gave new meaning to the word "abomination".

Games Current Reviews
Written by Big Ross, CC2K Staff Writer

ImageA messy plot prevents this mash-up of Krull, Ghost Recon, and Resident Evil from being a great game.

I don’t know how many people remember the movie KrullTony Lazlo certainly does, and maybe it’s a popular movie for geeks like he and I.  I used to love Krull as a kid, but unlike some childhood favorites, Krull is just as enjoyable for me today as it was then.  And why not?  Among all the awesome elements in this film, I’d like to single out one: the Glaive.  Shaped like a large starfish, forged of gold and encrusted with fabulous gems, this oddly beautiful artifact is one of the greatest fantasy weapons ever created.  I was so enamored with it that as a child I would fashion crude imitations out of cardboard and pretend to be Prince Collwyn.  I don’t know for sure, but I’ve got to think that the creators of Dark Sector were just like me as kids, only they grew up to be video game developers and seized on the idea, “Hey! What if we could make Krull into a video game?”

James Cameron: Tree Hugger? An Advance Script Review of Avatar E-mail
Movies Script Reviews
Written by Jonathan Lipman, CC2K Staff Writer

Image James Cameron’s Avatar, if ever made into a movie that remotely approaches the 170-page “scriptment” I have just finished reading, will bomb.

Notice I don’t say it will suck. It might be entertaining, in a big-spectacle way, as nobody does spectacle like the King of the World. It might be an intrriguing pop-sci-fi flick, full of boundary-pushing visual concepts, something else that Cameron has certainly shown he is adept at. It might be ripe for merchandising and do well overseas, as it has quirky aliens that carry a sort of Euro/anime/Native American sensibility about them.

But when it comes to U.S. box office, it will tank. No one will go see it.

Because it’s an eco-fable. Another movie telling us not to destroy the environment. And those … always … bomb.
